I have a regular old melamine corer of this same brand. It is generally fabulous and works wonderfully. That is, until a month ago. We've had ours for 9 mos, and the black plastic handle has begun cracking. I was hoping to re-buy a new stainless one, thinking that would solve the problem. However, torque is the issue and the corer part that goes thru the pineapple is still fine. I would not waste the $$ on the stainless model b/c it looks like the top handle, which receives all the torque, is STILL PLASTIC and I anticipate the same breakage issue. My advice is to think of this item as a throw away and that you will have to replace it eventually. Don't buy the stainless.Customer Review: Great for Smaller Pineapples

We found this slicer to be very nice. The only drawback it left a lot of pineapple waste, did not get as much as I would like. The slicer makes one large coil, which then needed to be cut. Otherwise, it is a handy gadget to have.
